VoiceSort Privacy Policy

VoiceSort is a voice-enabled photo organizer published by BFRTech Pty Ltd ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app collects, what leaves your device, who processes it, and what control you have.

We have written this to describe how the app actually behaves. If you have questions, contact us at solutions@bfrtech.com.au.

The short version

Most of what VoiceSort handles stays on your phone. Your photo library, your folder structure, your tags and captions, and the location recorded against your photos are all stored locally and are never uploaded by us.

Two features send data off your device, and only when you use them:

  • Voice tagging uploads the audio you record so it can be converted to text.

  • AI photo scanning uploads a small, reduced-quality copy of the photos you choose to scan, so folder names can be suggested.

Your email address is collected when you create an account. Subscription purchases are handled by Apple, Google and our subscription provider.

Voice recordings

When you record a voice tag, the audio file is sent to our platform provider, which passes it to a third-party speech-to-text service. Only the resulting text is returned to the app, and that text is stored on your device. We do not store your voice recordings on our own systems.

Audio is processed by third-party providers under their own privacy and security policies. We do not control how long those providers retain uploaded audio, and it may be retained for a period after processing. If you would prefer not to send audio off your device, do not use the voice tagging features.

Photos

VoiceSort reads your photo library so it can display and organize your photos. This happens entirely on your device. Photos you capture in the app are saved to your device's gallery. We do not upload your photo library.

The optional AI photo scanning feature is the single exception. When you run a scan, the app creates a small, compressed copy of each selected photo — reduced to 384 pixels wide — and sends that copy to a third-party vision model, which returns a suggested folder name. The reduced copies are sent for processing only; we do not store them.

As with audio, we do not control the retention practices of the vision provider. Avoid scanning photos containing sensitive or confidential material if this concerns you.

Location

If you grant location permission, VoiceSort records where a photo was taken and uses it to group photos by place. This information stays on your device. It is written into local photo metadata and is never transmitted to us or to any third party.

Account information

Creating an account requires an email address and password. These are handled by our authentication provider, which stores your email address, an encrypted form of your password, and session tokens. We do not store any other personal information about you on our servers.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions are purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play. We never see or handle your payment details. Our subscription provider receives purchase records and device identifiers in order to confirm your entitlement.

Who processes your data

We use the following providers. Each processes data only for the purposes described above.

  • Rork — application platform; relays voice audio and reduced photo copies to the AI providers below

  • ElevenLabs — speech-to-text transcription

  • Google (Gemini) — image recognition for AI photo scanning

  • Supabase — account authentication

  • RevenueCat — subscription management

  • Apple and Google — app distribution and payment processing

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers. VoiceSort contains no advertising and no analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.

Data security and transfer

All data transmitted by the app travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Our providers operate in various countries, so information sent off your device may be processed outside Australia. We select providers that maintain appropriate security practices, but no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure.

Retention

Your account record is retained for as long as your account exists. Content stored on your device — photos, tags, captions, folders, location metadata — remains under your control and is removed when you delete it or uninstall the app.

Voice audio and reduced photo copies sent for processing may be retained by the relevant third-party provider in accordance with that provider's own policies. We do not retain them ourselves.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from the Profile screen in the app. This permanently removes your account record and email address from our authentication provider and cannot be undone.

Deleting your account does not remove photos, folders or tags stored on your device — those remain yours, and you can delete them through the app or your device's photo library. To remove everything, delete your account and then uninstall the app.

Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, you may request access to the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you additionally have rights of erasure, restriction, objection and data portability under the GDPR. If you are a California resident, you have rights of access and deletion under the CCPA, and we confirm that we do not sell personal information.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at solutions@bfrtech.com.au. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Children

VoiceSort is not directed at children and is not intended for anyone under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Permissions the app requests

  • Camera — to take photos you want to organize

  • Microphone — to record voice tags and captions

  • Photo library — to display, organize and save your photos

  • Location — to record where a photo was taken, stored on your device only

Each permission is requested when you first use the relevant feature, and you can revoke any of them in your device settings. Declining a permission disables the feature that depends on it but does not prevent you using the rest of the app.

Changes to this policy

If we change how VoiceSort handles your information, we will update this page and revise the date at the top. Significant changes will be communicated in the app.
